BROCKPORT HEADS TO GENESEO FRIDAY

The Golden Eagles have just one game this weekend – but it’s a doozy. They will be making the 40-minute commute to Geneseo on Friday to take part in one of the greatest rivalries in college hockey.

Coming into the game, the tension and aggression might be a little dulled as both teams have been buddy-buddy (and rightfully so) in recent days as Brockport has lent support to the Ice Knights who have been dealing with Jay Stephanik’s health crisis.

But, once the first whistle blows, I’m sure the guys will go back to their old hard-fought ways. Both teams are highly motivated – Geneseo by #PrayForJay, Brockport by aspirations for greatness tasted when they landed on USCHO’s national ranking radar last week.

Geneseo comes into the match-up unbeaten (2-0-2). In their first game of the season they tied Oswego and have looked ornery ever since.

This game will feature lots of fireworks as Geneseo counters with their own version of our Chase Nieuwendyk in the form of Trevor Hills who already has 5 goals on this young season. Freshman Arthur Gordon has been lighting the lamp and looks like an excellent recruit with 3 goals.

This year’s version of Brockport will give Geneseo fits – they scored 8 goals last Saturday, could have scored many more on Friday had not Morrisville’s goalie played so incredibly, and they put up 6 against Cortland (a team Geneseo tied at 1). Brockport will face a wall, though, as manning the net will likely be freshman Devin McDonald, a real surprise this season with a .938 save percentage in 3 games.

It sounds like a great match-up. It WILL be a great match-up. If you can, make the ride to Geneseo. You won’t regret it.
