BROCKPORT BEATS FREDONIA 4-3

Chad Cummings netted the game winner with less than two minutes remaining in regulation to give the College at Brockport ice hockey team a 4-3 win over Fredonia Friday night.  A potent offense allowed the Golden Eagles to remain undefeated at home as 10 Golden Eagles recorded a point in the State University of New York Athletic Conference battle.

Cole Burack
made his collegiate debut in net and picked up the win after posting 29 saves.

Brockport (3-3-0 overall, 3-3-0 SUNYAC) went on the power play with 2:42 remaining in regulation and the scored knotted at three.  Trying to find an open man, Chad Cummings and Tim Kielich played keep away from the Fredonia (3-3-1, 3-3-1) defenders.  Cummings took a shot from the point and tucked in up top to seal the victory for the Golden Eagles.  Kielich picked up an assist on Cummings' first goal of the season and fourth of the defensemen's career.

Entering the third period, the tied was scored at two but the Golden Eagles were quick to change that.  After winning a battle along the board, Aidan Verbeke made a swift pass to Chase Nieuwendyk.  Nieuwendyk quickly shot the puck and was met by the goaltenders knee pad.  Zac Sikich picked up the loose puck and tucked into the left corner to give Brockport a 3-2 lead a mere 55 seconds into the third period.

Fredonia scored a goal nine minutes into the second period but Brockport answered back just over one minute later.  Ryan Kangas passed the puck to Jeremy DeFazio behind the net.  DeFazio dropped it off to Kielich who circled around the face off circle, split two Fredonia defenders and was able to bank it in off of the left post, giving Brockport a 2-1 lead.

The Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission despite being outshot 15-7.  With less than five minutes remaining in the period, Fredonia committed a penalty to give Brockport a power play.  Nick Palumbo sent a pass to Chris Luker at the blue line who sent the puck towards the goal.  The Fredonia goaltender made a pad save but Dylan Shapiro pounced on the rebound to tap it in and give Brockport a 1-0 lead.

Cole Burack
earned the win in his collegiate debut.  The Rockwall, Texas native made 29 saves including 15 in the first period alone.  Burack did not allow a goal on two Fredonia power plays and also came up big in the final minutes of play, stopping a handful of Fredonia shots.

The Golden Eagles outshot the Blue Devils 32-29.  Kielich led the offense with one goal and one assist.  Cummings, Sikich and Shaprio each scored one goal while Kangas, DeFazio, Luker, Palumbo, Verbeke and Nieuwendyk each picked up one assist.  Fredonia beat Brockport in the face off circle, winning 39 of 76 face offs.
