DeFAZIO IS BROCKPORT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Junior Jeremy DeFazio (Oakville, ONT) has been named The College at Brockport Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 12.

DeFazio has been a key member in the Golden Eagles Ice Hockey record breaking win streak. On the week DeFazio registered two goals and an assist helping Brockport secure two more victories and setting a new school record of six straight victories.

On January 5 against Southern New Hampshire, DeFazio scored two goals in a 3-1 victory. The win tied the previous school record of five straight wins by Brockport. DeFazio redirected a slap shot from the blue line past the Southern New Hampshire goalie to give the Golden Eagles the early lead. Southern New Hampshire tied the score in the second period, but Brockport answered with a topping goal in the third period. Late in the game, DeFazio scored an empty net security goal as Southern New Hampshire pulled their goalie in an attempt to pressure Brockport into a game-tying goal.

The Golden Eagles broke the win streak record on Jan. 10 against Elmira. It was a tightly contested game as both team’s offenses were clicking and the referees whistles were blowing often. Elmira was ahead of Brockport after scoring two power play goals early into the second period. However the Golden Eagles fought resiliently and tied the score 11:42 into the second period on their own power play goal. A few minutes later Elmira again had the one man advantage as Brockport was whistled with a penalty, however the Golden Eagles scored after DeFazio sent a pass to his teammate who put the puck past the goalie for the game-winning goal. Brockport won the road game 5-3, and improved its record to 8-5-1 on the season.
