BROCKPORT FALLS TO NAZ

Junior Jeremy DeFazio (Oakville, ONT), sophomore Andrew Parks (Orillia, ONT) and freshman Dylan Shapiro (Rochester, NY) all scored goals for The College at Brockport Hockey team but a late empty-net goal sealed a 5-3 victory for Nazareth College Friday night as the Golden Eagle's school-record six-game win streak was snapped on home ice at the Tuttle North Ice Arena in Brockport.

Brockport (8-6-1) took an early lead as Parks scored just 1:23 into the game. Defensemen Bobby Chayka (Hardwick, NJ) and Chris Luker (New Hartford, NY) assisted on the play as the Golden Eagles took the early lead.

Midway through the first period, Nazareth (6-6-3) tied the score with a short-handed goal and took a 2-1 lead three minutes later as Brockport was limited to just four shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes of action.

In the second period, Brockport tied the score 3:28 into the period when Shapiro picked up a loose puck and wrapped around the back of the goal to slip the puck into the open half of the net for a 2-2 tie. Nazareth regained the lead four minutes later before DeFazio tied the game again at the 11:20 mark in the period.

DeFazio had an open shot from 15 feet out after a pass from Jesse Facchini (Mississauga, ONT) to a wide open DeFazio on the right side of the goal.

Four minutes later, Nazareth took the lead for good with less than four minutes to play in the second period.

In the third period, Brockport killed off a five-minute power play and had several good scoring chances late in the game after pulling goalie Jared Lockhurst (Caledon, ONT) for the extra attacker.

The Golden Eagles went on a power play for the final 25 seconds of play but a turnover in the neutral zone led to an empty net goal for Nazareth to secure the win with 2.2 seconds left on the clock.

The six-game win streak was tied for the longest current win streak in the country.

Brockport returns to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play next weekend with a pair of back-to-back games against Morrisville on Friday and Saturday. Both games are in Brockport and start at 7 pm.
