BROCKPORT FALLS TO SUFFOLK; 4-1

The College at Brockport Hockey team held a convincing 42-24 advantage in shots on gal but Suffolk University converted four f its 24 shots and posted a 4-1 victory Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game played in Boston.

Brockport (4-11-1) scored in the third period as junior Brendon Rothfuss (Webster, NY/Syracuse Stars) scored his third goal of the weekend t cut the lead to 3-1 but Suffolk (5-6-3) scored an empty net goal at the end of the period for the final margin of victory.

The Rams scored two goals in the span of just over two minutes early in the first period for the early lead. The goals came at the 5:00 and 7:05 marks of the period.

After a scoreless second period, Suffolk took a 3-0 lead with a goal six minutes into the final period. Rothfuss scored 2:47 later with assists from Jesse Facchini (Mississauga, ONT/Mississauga Chargers) and Mike Hayward (Toronto, ONT/Vaughan Vipers).


Brockport was outshot 12-8 in the opening period but rattled off 34 shots in the final two periods while limiting the Rams to just 12 shots over the same period of time. Suffolk goalie Brandon Smolarek stopped 41 shots. Aaron Green (Mt. Albert, ONT/St. Michaels Buzzers) was credited with 20 saves for Brockport.
