BROCKPORT DROPS CONFERENCE GAME TO MORRISVILLE

A Morrisville goal with less than four minutes remaining in regulation kept Brockport from earning at least a point in the State Univeristy of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) as the Golden Eagles fell 5-4 at Morrisville Friday night. Brockport is now 3-4-0 in conference play.

Brockport held a 3-1 advantage midway through the second period but the Mustangs rallied back to take a 4-3 lead. Chris Cangro (Holbrook, NY/New York Bobcats) tied the game up at four eight minutes into the third period but Morrisville responded with the game-winner at the 16:24 mark to steal the conference victory, its first of the season.

The Mustangs got on the board first with a goal five minutes into the first period. Chris Luker (New Hartford, NY/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) answered Morrisville with a power play goal, his first goal of the season to tie the game at one. Troy Polino (Limerick, PA/New York Bobcats) was credited with his third assist of the season. The game remained tied for the rest of the first period.

Jeremy DeFazio (Oakville, ONT/Georgetown Raiders) put Brockport up 2-1 on an assist from Matt DeLuca (Skippack, PA/Syracuse Stars) at the 4:33 mark of the second period. Brockport wasted little time building its lead to two as Polino scored four minutes later on assists from Cangro and DeLuca. Polino had been held scoreless since his two goal performance against Cortland on Nov. 3, a span of six games.

Morrisville's comeback began with four minutes left in the second period, cutting the Brockport lead in half. Trailing 3-2, the Mustangs netted two goals in the span of 19 seconds five minutes into the third period to regain the lead.

Cangro's goal put the game back into a deadlock with 12 minutes to go in regulation. DeFazio and DeLuca each recorded an assist on the score. DeLuca, a defenseman, entered the night with just two assists on the year before adding three helpers to his name against the Mustangs.

Cangro was penalized for boarding at the 14:09 mark as Morrisville went on the power play. The Golden Eagles were able to kill of the disadvantage, but Morrisville netted the game-winner just 17 seconds afterwards. Brockport was able to kill off all six Mustang power plays on the night.

The Golden Eagles converted one of three power plays on the night but allowed a shorthanded goal. Brockprot was outshot 35-28. Aaron Green (Mt. Albert, ONT/St. Michaels Buzzers) faced 35 shots on the night, making 30 saves.

Brockport will have a week off before taking on Geneseo at 7:00 pm on Dec. 7 at Tuttle North Ice Arena.
