BROCKPORT FALLS TO FREDONIA, 1-0

The Athletic Department recaps last night's game...

Jared Lockhurst (Caledon, ONT/Wellington Dukes) had his second straight solid performance in net for The College at Brockport Hockey team, but the Golden Eagles fell 1-0 to the Fredonia Blue Devils. Playing at Steele Hall in Fredonia, the Golden Eagles allowed a first period goal which proved to be the game-winner. Brockport is now 1-2-0 on the year and 1-1-0 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference.

Lockhurst, playing in just his second collegiate game, stopped 26 shots on the night. The rookie stopped 42 shots Friday night against Buffalo State. Lockhurst is now 1-1 on the year.

Matt Hehr converted a first period goal for Fredonia on a wrist shot from the right circle to beat Lockhurst stick-side. Mike Hayward (Toronto, ONT/Vaughan Vipers) had a selection of shots on net from the point in the first but failed to find the back of the net.

The Golden Eagles defense did a solid job in the second period of killing off two big power plays. At one point, the Golden Eagles had just four players on the ice while Fredonia fired off multiple shots on net. Lockhurst made two spectacular saves on back-to-back shots. The freshman stopped a point-blank one-on-one shot. While on his back after the first attempt, Lockhurst made a glove save to keep the deficit to just one.

Lockhurst had another one-on-one save late in the third period as Hehr came down the right flank and tried to beat the goalie but Lockhurst made the stop.

Brockport pulled its goalie with a minute to play and brought on the extra attacker. The Golden Eagles had a good look from Bobby Chayka (Hardwick, NJ/Granite City Lumberjacks) who fired wide. Brockport was unable to create the equalizer.

Brockport returns to SUNYAC action on Nov. 2 as the Golden Eagles take on Oswego at 7:00 pm for a home match at Tuttle North Ice Arena. Brockport will entertain Cortland the following night at 7:00 pm as well.
